Paulina Calderon

What made you decide to attend the University of Maryland?
I have always wanted to attend the University of Maryland because of how big and diverse the college is. I grew up in a small city and wanted to experience living at a big college and meeting a lot of people.

What major/career path do you plan on pursuing and how did you select that path?
I plan on pursuing journalism as my major. I've always had a love for storytelling and, after taking a journalism class my sophomore year, I knew this was the path I wanted to pursue.

What clubs, community service, campus activities, or hobbies are you currently involved in or plan to take part in?
I am a scholar of the Maryland Promise Program at UMD, and I plan to join many clubs as I learn more about what is available. I have an interest in joining the ballet company since I've danced my entire life.

How has receiving this scholarship positively impacted your life?
This scholarship has positively impacted my life by providing me the funds I need to pursue my dreams. It has motivated me to succeed in my goals and to work as hard as I can to achieve what I want.

What are your future goals after graduation?
After graduation, I'd like to work at a big news outlet such as CNN, hopefully producing media that can be shared via network. I'd like to move to a bigger city, such as New York.
