About

What made you decide to attend the University of Maryland?
There are a ton of organizations and extracurricular activities at this university. There is a strong sense of school spirit. Additionally, I'm really hoping to get into a major that will benefit my future career.

What major/career path do you plan on pursuing and how did you select that path?
I am pursuing a degree in biocomputational engineering. I want to change the world, which is why I want to pursue a career in pharmacy. I think I'll be able to achieve this goal if I follow this path.

What clubs, community service, campus activities, or hobbies are you currently involved in or plan to take part in?
I'm researching biotechnology-related organizations and a few other clubs, but I haven't decided which ones to join yet. However, since 2017, I have volunteered as a part of the Cambodian Buddhist Society.

How has receiving this scholarship positively impacted your life?
This scholarship prevents me from having to worry about money, which will have a significant impact on my education. I can concentrate primarily on my studies rather than working every day to pay for my tuition.

What are your future goals after graduation?
Serving the underprivileged and giving back to the community have always been high priorities for me. I made the decision to volunteer at churches and temples during my time in high school and college. As I see how many people rely on medicine, I am more determined than ever to pursue a career in pharmaceutical science and make the world a healthier and better place for everyone.

If you are a returning scholar, what is your favorite part of the Maryland Promise Program?
Though this is my first year in the Maryland Promise Program, after just one semester of participation, I've already developed a deep affection for the program and community. Our program manager, Michelle, pushed me to venture outside of my comfort zone, which we call being “squishy.” In addition, there are a ton of resources and opportunities related to my coursework.
