What made you decide to enroll at the University of Maryland?
I decided to enroll at UMD for several reasons: 1.) I wanted to be able to be away from home, but not too far. UMD is the perfect distance because I can easily visit family whenever I please, while at the same time I am far enough to live on my own and form an independent lifestyle. 2.) The financial aid and scholarships available. I am a third year undergrad that transferred from Montgomery College who is enrolled in a three year scholarship program (Southern Management Leadership Program), which transfers specifically into UMD. 3.) As a business major, it has always been a dream of mine to get into the Robert H. Smith School since it is known to be a rigorous, prestigious business school. Once I found out that I got admitted, it was a done deal!

What major/career path do you plan on pursuing and how did you select that path?
I am currently majoring in marketing. I selected this major because I wanted to do something within the business world that involves talking to people, I like being creative and thinking out of the box, and you get to learn a little bit of everything. That major ended up being marketing!

Activities I do outside of class or community service/volunteer activities I'm involved with:
Besides the Maryland Promise Program, I am also a member of the Southern Management Leadership Program (known formerly as Hillman Entrepreneurs). I am also in the Real Estate Club and I work as the leasing and marketing assistant for "The Nine," a brand new apartment complex for UMD students being built as we speak! I occasionally volunteer for local creek clean ups and the Lost Dog and Cat Foundation.

Which programs are you enrolled in, and what have you gained from your experience in them thus far?
So far in the Maryland Promise Program, I have gained great connections at the MPP Welcome Event, new friends, and the motivation to work as hard as I can for my next two years here at UMD. I hope to gain more knowledge on how this wonderful program came to be, and to get closer with all of the program members and advisors.

Aside from academics, what else do you hope to take away from your time at Maryland?
Besides academic learning, I also hope to learn how to become a better person, a successful business owner, meet people with the same aspirations as me and build connections, and to graduate happily with a college experience I will never forget.

What are your future goals after graduation?
My goals after graduation are to work for a well-known, innovative company that has sustainability and eco-friendliness as their core values, while at the same time owning my own prospering business that is also good for the planet. I also may or may not pursue a masters degree.
